H1898 guests can enjoy live jazz and blues without needing to leave the hotel, as a band plays live music once a week in the Hotel’s main hall. This space is also used show cinema classics from the early 20th century, such as Chaplin’s “City Lights” and “The Kid.”
The lobby also features a spacious rest and reading area, as well as a bar and café, both open to the public, with magnificent coffered ceilings and views of the Rambla. A rotating wood door that operates with a mechanism dating back to the early 20th century makes this space truly unique. The floors feature beautifully restored multi-colored marble, the walls are equipped with antique brass fixtures, and elegant columns serve to smoothly connect the Rambla lobby to the reception area.
Núñez i Navarro Hotels consigned the décor of H1898 to Rosa Roselló, who managed to give it an intense warmth and elegance embodied by fine materials, such as wood, leather, wicker and a vast variety of textiles. The ambience of H1898 is a stunning result of skillful balance between the past and the present. Its thorough decoration is inspired in neoclassical style infused with an innovative Colonial air. Roselló achieved this marvelous effect by working with stripes, grids and checks, offering a personal interpretation of the symbiosis of Neoclassic and Colonial styles, and immersing guests in an atmosphere full of exhilarating contrasts. The H1898 is grounded mainly on combinations of black, brown and white. Its style departs from convention in its mixture of woods, dark fabrics, chrome-plated metals, and fine details. The restored wooden walls, balustrades and floors feature etimoe and sucupira woods, both brought exclusively from Africa.
