Within its dense urban framework, Barcelona offers a green and pleasing landscape, thanks to its many parks and tree-lined streets. While it may be hard to believe, there are over 150,000 trees on Barcelona’s streets… and that’s not counting parks or commons like Montjuïc or Collserola.
The large parks in Barcelona include La Ciutadella, Park Güell and the gardens of the Pedralbes Palace. Still, everyone recognizes the mountainous zone of Collserola as the green lung of the city. Visitors can peacefully stroll through all these areas, escape from noise and traffic, play sports, and disconnect for a little bit. But perhaps what best characterizes Barcelona is its plentiful small parks hidden in plazas or in the courtyards of the Eixample’s city blocks. Neighborhood parks and playgrounds serve as cultural focal points and make wonderful places to walk around.
Aside from its parks, Barcelona’s other great outdoor play space is its beaches. Over 3 miles of urban beaches, equipped with all the necessary services including changing rooms and restrooms, showers, first-aid stations, security, handicap-accessible facilities, and a wide range of bars and restaurants.
